My Windows 8 PC has a little tiny 50GB internal hard disk that now has just 11 GB left free. To save space and make the computer runs smoothly is there a way to move Apps, my file (documents, photos, ect) and download/Install/run the new apps from an External Hard disk (USB 500 GB)? Open the BootCamp folder and run the Setup app to install the Boot Camp drivers. Thats it your done now u have an external drive with both bootable windows partiton and one avialable for mac(Mac can read both partitions but windows can only read the NTFS partition), u can use the mac partition as spare space to install apps or a time machine drive.
- From Applications, go to Utilities and from there, find and double click on Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility tab, select the external hard drive that is connected to the Mac, and then click on.
- New to gaming with mods and CC. I never had the storage on my Mac so I went and purchased an external drive. I managed to reinstall everything onto it but for the life of me could not figure out how to get the dam EA folder to stay on the drive instead of documents. I was able to do Symlink. This just saved me from so much frustration thank you!!!
Move all the NON OS and Apps off the boot drive.
Keep all your applications with the system drive.

Mac OS doesn't normally need more than 150GB by itself, a few people have twice that (X-Plane can go anywhere and use 60GB)
I also would go for Windows on its own drive instead.

I've played with a dedicated 3rd party apps drive (10K or 15K SCSI) and it doesn't help. Sometimes you can install a few third party with your home folder if you really insist and drag and drop, most installers will still need to add to the boot drive's Library.
You should never get too low on your hard drive space as the OS needs a minimum 10 - 15 GB of empty space at all times to function properly. As well, if you do any movie or photo/image editing, rendering and editing works best if you have at least as much empty space as you have temporary files in your project; I can easily amass 100 GB or more of temp. files for a one hour HD movie, so I keep a lot of hard drive space empty.
So, in order to get some stuff off your hard drive, the usual space hoggers are movies, photos, etc. You can move all of those in their library to an external hard drive and, after making sure they work there, delete them from your hard drive.
In general, application work best if they are installed on your internal hard drive; I am not a gamer, so I am not familiar with the specifics of the game you are referring to. Googling it, I could not find any reference to Macs on their website - here it shows the platforms it is compatible with:
